Squarespace vs a custom website: which is right for you?

Squarespace, and Wix, and Shopify themes, get a lot of stick from agencies, and often unfairly. For many businesses they are the right, sensible choice. For others they are a ceiling you will hit within a year. The honest question is not which is better, but which one you are.

It is worth being clear about what Squarespace is genuinely great at. It is cheap, it is quick, you can run it yourself, the templates are decent, and hosting is included. It costs more up front, and you do not run every last thing yourself, which is the trade.
